In this six-hour workshop, students will learn about the exciting possibilities of genetic engineering which allows DNA modification of bacteria, plants, and animals. Students will be exposed to wide-ranging applications of genetic engineering in medical health, climate change, and global food supply.
Highlights of the workshop : Students will observe live cells under microscope and learn how to insert the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene (originally found in jellyfishes) into the DNA of non-pathogenic bacteria so that the bacteria will produce green fluorescence under UV light.
